Today was the day that had been ultimately ascribed to be Stark's Official Unofficial Birthday, and, so, of course, Summer asked what he would like to do for it. And Stark, of course, had been predictably vague and uncertain. She managed to squeeze out of him the idea of a nice fancy dinner date, and so she put gears into motion and got them a nice reservation at a local Baltimore restaurant.

Sure, they could've gone almost anywhere in the multiverse, but there was a certain sweet quaintness to just hopping over to the nearest mainland city.

And also Summer had been seeing Of Love and Regrets popping off on some of her more culinary hipster social media radars, so that made it a done deal.

"The regret," she had assured him with convincing confidence "refers to the morning after having a few too many of their cocktails."

Probably. But she had already anticipated that the place's name would immediately cause some concern.

Anyway, they were there now and Summer was looking cute as hell and positioning her phone to get a good shot of her Pink Opps drink.

Because of course that was the one she'd get.

It had turned out that the conceit of Ignis' class had worked out perfectly for Summer and Stark's plot to make sure that Summer wasn't anywhere near the island on Friday mornings to help prevent certain drunken rodents from pestering her into doing radio (sorry, Eleanor!). Wherever Ignis ended up taking them for Wine & Dine class, they would just stick around, schedule their own portal for the next day, find a place to stay for the night and something fun to do while they were there, too.

Usually, that meant digging into the nightlife nearby, and being so close to Tokyo for this one made this one a snap. Their hotel was very nice, of course, and there was a club not too far away, either, and so after enjoying some of the more rustic charms of this area and some dinner, they were back in the hotel room so Summer could get dressed and ready for a night out.

She'd been talking loudly from the bathroom so Stark could hear her, mostly about what they might do after the club, and she knew that he could be very inclined to just listen to her yammer on without having much to add himself, but he was almost being worryingly quiet, to the point where she frowned, finished up her eyeliner, and then went to check on him in the bedroom.

"Star--"

No Stark. Only a koala sitting on the bed.

"Oh, god dammit!"

So this was finally a thing that was happening.

Summer had gone and whisked Stark away to that one dimension where she was not only irreparably traumatized by an absolute terrorist of a sentient ship, but that was also, in the process of that trauma, taken over by giant telepathic spiders.

Ahhh. Good times!

But, anyway, this was also the dimension that Summer developed a taste for flies in her ice cream, because that was a big favorite of the giant telepathic spiders, and this dimension had the best Ball Fondlers movies out of literally any dimension that Summer had ever been to, so after catching the latest one on the big screen, they hopped over to the usual ice cream place, where the staff greeted Summer on clearly very familiar terms. She waved and greeted them back, and told them it would be a minute while they decided, it was Stark's first time! And then she slipped her hand into his and leaned on him a little as she scanned over the menu, which had almost everything you'd expect from a classic ice cream joint, except that everything had flies.

Which was why Stark was also getting a light kiss on the cheek, too. "Take your time," she allowed. "I know there's a lot choose from. I mean, fly sundae? Fly milkshake? Fly-sprinkled ice cream cone? Fly ice cream sandwich...."

Yes, she knew this probably wasn't helping.

Summer was, once again, shirking her duties at Caritas for something a little more private and exclusive, and Tino was going to have to get over it and it wasn't her fault that he didn't have anything better to do for Valetnine's Day that evening, unlike her, who definitely did, and if he wanted her there that evening, well, he should have enticed her there with a better off than getting high and making dinner and then probably having way too much of whatever dessert Stark was bringing, which would be worth it, because of course he was going to try and go all out with it to impress her.

So after warning Tino that she was blocking his number and if there was a bar emergency, he should maybe try calling, oh, she didn't know, their boss instead, she went back to getting everything set out and ready for what they would need to whip up the (literally) cheesy Valentine's day inspired recipe she found that Stark would appreciate because he was a nerd, some garlic knots to go with it, and, like, a salad, so it wasn't all just 'yes, we're literally just eating cheese and bread for dinner.'

But, look, that cheese and bread was going to be insane once those gummies kicked in.

The nice thing about having access to portals and a space ship was that if you wanted to get away for a while, you could really get away. No one cared about Dwarf Terrace-9; the most action Dwarf Terrace-9 had seen since the time the Smith family claimed it as a temporary home more than five years ago was when Summer took her class there earlier that week. But the cabin was still in good shape, and now that she and Stark had arrived for the weekend....well, it was definitely going to see a lot of action now.

Well, not at the moment, though. The tour of the planet had been very quick because, well, it was a tiny planet, you could literally travel around the whole thing in, like, half a day, and then they went inside to get things set up (how did a cabin that had been abandoned for five years still have all its utilities and power? Don't worry about it). There were cozy sweaters and hot chocolate and popcorn, and now it was time to pick a movie.

"So," said Summer, as she settled on the couch and snuggled in, "what are we watching?"

So, the place that Summer had settled on for the double date tonight was a bit more than a stone's throw away from where they were staying, but, you know what? That was fine. It was a major city, getting around it would be easy enough and that meant that not only were they going to have an experience a little different and unique from everyone sticking near the hotel, but they'd also get to see more of the city itself, and that was not necessarily a bad thing.

Also, getting reservations at some of these small but highly acclaimed sushi places was not easy, so the fact that Summer was able to snag one here for that evening was not something she could just pass up.

And while a cozy little sushi place with the full experience of having the chef right there at the counter to make it for you was not at all what she originally had in mind for tonight when she first thought of it, she did feel it would be a little more suited to the group as a whole as something more quiet and personal, and, plus, you know, that authentic experience. She'd have plenty of time for the bigger, brighter, more over-the-top side of Tokyo later.

But for now? Just a nice little dinner date with a super genius, a space wizard, and a pirate, as she settled into one of the chairs at the counter that had been reserved for them and really, really hoped she hadn't been way off base for what Rey and John might enjoy while planning this out.

[[ for the aforementioned super genius, space wizard, and pirate, of course! ]]

There were a lot of things Summer appreciated the hell out of about her current relationship, and the fact that she could just shoot Barry a text that said Hey you wanna go check out some rando planet with me? and have it met with a resounding Fuck yeah! in response was definitely up there at the top of the list.

Because she was feeling a little bored, they hadn't really made time for an actual date in a little while, and the itch to do a little planet hopping was under her skin with how quiet the last week had been. Besides, as she explained, she knew there had to be something good on this planet, because she'd noticed it popping up on the portal gun logs when she was mining data from Rick's dimension and planetary databases. Which meant there had to be something pretty good there if Rick was spending so much time there. Did she know what made it so worth his while? Nope! Maybe there were some sort of mega energy crystals that Barry could use for some new inventions. Maybe there were some dope ass aliens there that really knew how to party. Maybe it was blackjack and hookers! Maybe it was overrun by violent monsters and it was the best place to really get your fighting rocks off or maybe it was home to the best french fries in the entire multiverse. Summer had no idea, and that was the point! It was high time they went and found out what the fuss was about on this particular planet.

Summer had geared up and loaded up the ship, ready for pretty much anything, but she was not ready for the glorious sight that hit them once they landed on the soft sandy beach of a large lake, surrounded by a golden field, lush plants, and gracefully looming mountains and steppes and flowing rivers, tranquil lakes.

"Holy shit," she said eloquently. "This place totally beats the pants off of Venzenulon 9..."

The scenery couldn't just be it, but, man...it was a pretty good start!

So, Barry was coming over again for another movie night, although, for Summer's intents and purposes, it really didn't have much to do with a movie at all. Which was maybe why a stupid amount of time was spent between her class that morning and now figuring out a clever way to get the lighting in her living room down to a nice moody setting, why she'd made the most out of some nice vanilla-floral candles, and why Pancakes was pretty much blazed out of her mind on catnip in the other room, which she figured should buy them significantly fewer rude and poorly timed interruptions than last time...

And the best part was that she didn't really feel nervous, or anything like that, just excited and pleased, which was just sort of...nice. And she was even a little curious about what kind of movie Barry would actually pick, despite her hopes to not really get the chance to watch much of it.

[[ for that guy, of course, and thus concludes my spamming you with Summer ]]
somethingwithturquoise: (texting on the couch)
Summer had sort of been wishing her class hadn't been moved to Fridays this semester, because that would have given her something more to focus on for a good chunk of the day that wasn't kind of obsessing over the state of her apartment, which was fine, obviously, and it was kind of stupid that she was even nervous about Barry coming over for pizza and a phenominally dumb movie and meeting her cat (god, she really used that as a framing devise, didn't she, wtf), but there they were.

Thankfully, she actually did manage to distract herself pretty effectively by deciding to actually dig into a little bit of economic theory for her class, with Pancakes curled up and purring and complicating the whole lap part of using a laptop, but, whatever, it was cute, although Summer did make sure to have at least one moment of serious discussion with her.

"Seriously, Cakes, don't be a brat. If you're good, I promise, there will definitely be some of that dank Nebulon 9 catnip in your future."

And Summer was just going to take Pancakes' continued purring and leaning into the chin scratches she was getting as an acceptance to these terms and conditions.

somethingwithturquoise: (leaning and texting)
Even though she knew everything was fine, Summer was a little tempted to get to the scrapyard early and fiddle with the ship before things got started for her daaaate, but, on the other hand, she did not turned her bedroom into a warzone of rejected outfits (which were surely now collecting enough cat hair to knit a sweater as Pancakes inevitably assumed all those clothes were strewn about specifically for her to sleep on) until settling on something seemingly effortless just to risk messing it up. She also thought about being 'fashionably late' andm making Barry wait for her at the ship, but, ugh, no, did we really want to be that person? So she got there early enough to just check some of the basic diagnositics (especially with the new power source) and got her started to warm her up, reminding herself of what Rey had said about her overthinking it.

So she figured she might as well just delve into the most mindless thing possible to counterbalance it by scrolling through Instagram for potential shot ideas for this apparent Girls Night Out that was going on tomorrow.

If there wasn't at least some karaoke involved, she was going to be so disappointed in this generation (which was still technically also pretty much her own generation, but shhhh).
