So, the whole space part of Summer's plan for Annie's party didn't exactly pan out the way she was hoping. Part of her conversation with Lucifer on Wednesday had turned out to be somewhat prophetic, as one for her choices for location had conveniently decided to start a galactic civil war with their moon colonies, and the other place, apparently, didn't even exist anymore. The best guess was that it somehow involved Cromulans, which meant that planet was pretty much space dust now, which meant that Summer could pretty much kiss her deposit on that venue good-bye.

Which was fine! If she couldn't still pull together a more terrestrial party at the last minute, then she truly should just hang up her party crown now and retire in shame. So emails and texts went out, the gnomes at Portalocity would hopefully cooperate in sharing the news with anyone who showed up expecting to head elsewhere, that the party was relocated. And Summer was going to just use her own place for the cause, but, really, through the ensuing chain of events in preparation that morning, she remembered that Diego's apartment was pretty much literally right across the hall and easily twice as large.

So Diego's apartment it was!

Honestly, as boyfriend, it was literally the least he could do.

But because it was a little last minute and Summer didn't have the benefit of foisting at least half the cleaning duties on an NPC bartender like she could at Caritas, the decorations were a bit more...restrained. Oh, sure, there was still going to be glitter everywhere and every corner that Summer had access to was decked out in stars, but the mood was much different, trying to go for something a little more elegent in mood, with starlights draped out on the balcony, draped over doors, and projected over the walls and ceiling.

Look, if they couldn't make it out to space due to galactic conflict and super harsh critics with planet-exploding capabilities, they could at least try to bring the space to them.

“Oh yeah. I mean. Technically. We had a stop-over on our way back from Majorca. Stayed in a hotel.... We didn’t see the sights or anything, though.” Travis shrugged. “That is, my husband and I. The, uh. The dead one.”

"I'm not sure where Majorca is. Is that far?" Stark was really not well-versed in geography. Maybe he should study some maps. "Or...maybe you'd rather not talk about that." What with the trip being with the dead husband and all. "That's fine. You don't have to."

"Nah, it's okay. It was a good trip. Majorca's a gorgeous island."

And he'd spent half the trip sad because it wasn't going to be long enough.

"You don't my asking, where have you gone? Have you just stuck to the island?"

It was never long enough, was it?

"Mostly I stay on the island. I've been to the mainland a few times. We went to Disneyland once, when I was here the first time. Then Japan this year, with the school."

And Travis was very bad at living in the moment.

"Right! I heard a bit about that trip I think. The school sponsored it."

Stark nodded. "They send you on a trip with the students if you teach." Or 'teach' in an ill-advised scam that backfired multiple times.

"It seemed like a good excuse to travel. A good oppprtunity. Usually...usually I worry too much. About being somewhere else. Somewhere where I stand out more than here."

"Right! Because of the, uh. Mask. Yeah, that makes sense." Travis tilted his head. "You'd really need to own something like that. Just kind of...stare them down if they look at you funny."

"Usually I just...try not to be noticed. Usually." Last week being an exception to that rule.

"Or just try to ignore any staring. Depends on my mood. Not usually bold enough to stare someone down."

Travis had liked noticing him, though. And this wasn't even too terribly awkward talking now.

"I bet it's something you could practice. If you wanted to."

Stark had liked being noticed, last week. He was just pretty sure it had been entirely pollen driven. But this was much less awkward than he'd expected.

"I'm better than I was. But...yes, I could practice."

"You said you've been to the mainland. Maybe that'd be a good place to start."

"It might be," Stark allowed with a small nod. "When I'm feeling bold."

Or someone suggested a trip. Going alone was much more of a frightening prospect.

"I could...go with you, maybe," Travis said. "Moral support."

"Really? You don't have to."

Stark, no. Not the correct response.

"I mean. If you'd like to?"

"Sure. I mean...we have fun, right? Not just as, uh. Bedroom friends."

"Yes, not just that. Though that was... and I don't usually..."

Oh, there was the awkward.

"It had been a long time, before last week, and I don't usually, and last week was last week and I know that and I certainly don't expect... but yes. Fun. There could be fun. Without the other."

“Yes.” Travis nodded. “We can be friends-friends. I mean, so long as last week didn’t make things too weird for you?”

"No. I mean, yes. We can. It shouldn't. Friends... friends are good."

“Good!” Travis said, too brightly. He really needed to get out more. “Friends it is!”

"Friends," Stark echoed with yet another nod. "Good."

That was far better than the 'oh no what have I done go away' reaction he'd been vaguely concerned about.
