So, the whole space part of Summer's plan for Annie's party didn't exactly pan out the way she was hoping. Part of her conversation with Lucifer on Wednesday had turned out to be somewhat prophetic, as one for her choices for location had conveniently decided to start a galactic civil war with their moon colonies, and the other place, apparently, didn't even exist anymore. The best guess was that it somehow involved Cromulans, which meant that planet was pretty much space dust now, which meant that Summer could pretty much kiss her deposit on that venue good-bye.

Which was fine! If she couldn't still pull together a more terrestrial party at the last minute, then she truly should just hang up her party crown now and retire in shame. So emails and texts went out, the gnomes at Portalocity would hopefully cooperate in sharing the news with anyone who showed up expecting to head elsewhere, that the party was relocated. And Summer was going to just use her own place for the cause, but, really, through the ensuing chain of events in preparation that morning, she remembered that Diego's apartment was pretty much literally right across the hall and easily twice as large.

So Diego's apartment it was!

Honestly, as boyfriend, it was literally the least he could do.

But because it was a little last minute and Summer didn't have the benefit of foisting at least half the cleaning duties on an NPC bartender like she could at Caritas, the decorations were a bit more...restrained. Oh, sure, there was still going to be glitter everywhere and every corner that Summer had access to was decked out in stars, but the mood was much different, trying to go for something a little more elegent in mood, with starlights draped out on the balcony, draped over doors, and projected over the walls and ceiling.

Look, if they couldn't make it out to space due to galactic conflict and super harsh critics with planet-exploding capabilities, they could at least try to bring the space to them.

"That you had as much fashion sense as Steve," Danny replied honestly. "Which is to say almost none."

"Have you ever seen yourself?" Diego asked.

"Oh, are button up shirts offensive to you too?" Danny asked dryly. "You dress like Rambo's little brother, pal."

Diego wasn't even going to get into how that analogy didn't make sense since Rambo wore headbands and was shirtless half the time. That would be admitting he had seen those movies.

"You dress like you're fifty."

"I dress professionally." Also like a dad.

"Does our job really count as a profession?" he asked. Come on, they were barely cops.

Diego. Diego, why did you do this to him?

"Yes, it does. What is wrong with you?"

You might barely be a cop, but he definitely was! You know. Back home. Where shit randomly exploded and people died in completely improbably ways. Also, the CIA was almost always behind everything.

Diego shrugged. "I spent this morning cleaning confetti off my desk that was mailed to the station."

It definitely didn't feel like a real job.

"Better than some other stuff," Danny said, making a face.

"What the hell have you been finding on your desk?" Other than food wrappers.

"Here? Just crumbs from people stealing stuff. Back home? Definitely had a few bomb threats." Because his Hawaii was nuts. "Got hit by Sarin once while searching a house."

Diego just stared at Danny for a moment. "Am I supposed to not think that's cool or...?"

"...very much not cool, Diego," Danny sighed, concerned for his well-being on so many levels right now. "Please do not go looking for bombs or chemical weapons. I can't believe I have to tell you that chemical weapons are bad."

HEY, DIEGO. WAIT UNTIL THEY HAD ANTHRAX BEES.

"I know they're bad," Diego said, rolling his eyes. "Stopping the people responsible seems cool."

"Or our job. Mostly just our job." Way to make it less cool, Danny.

"You're really good at making interesting stuff sound really boring." That...was a compliment? Maybe?

He was in a mood.

"It's a gift." Well, he was lucky that Danny was used to Steve's level of emotional constipation and didn't take it personally. "Steve's gonna be grilling next weekend, so you should stop back after your shift."

Steve as going to be told he was grilling, honestly, but such was their relationship.

"I'll think about it." Which was a no. For one, he knew what Danny was doing inviting him to stuff like that. Secondly, he didn't know if he could be a third wheel to Steve and Danny flirting with each other.

Excuse you, this was out of concern for a friend you little shit.

"Uh huh."

And they weren't even flirting! It was just them being them!

"I could be busy." Doing both stuff and things.

"Of course," Danny agreed, nodding along with that like he believed it. "Well. Offer is there. God knows Steve'll go overboard with the weather clearing up."
