✨ MHA #2: Super Starlight Party! - Saturday Evening [04/17]. ✨

So, the whole space part of Summer's plan for Annie's party didn't exactly pan out the way she was hoping. Part of her conversation with Lucifer on Wednesday had turned out to be somewhat prophetic, as one for her choices for location had conveniently decided to start a galactic civil war with their moon colonies, and the other place, apparently, didn't even exist anymore. The best guess was that it somehow involved Cromulans, which meant that planet was pretty much space dust now, which meant that Summer could pretty much kiss her deposit on that venue good-bye.

Which was fine! If she couldn't still pull together a more terrestrial party at the last minute, then she truly should just hang up her party crown now and retire in shame. So emails and texts went out, the gnomes at Portalocity would hopefully cooperate in sharing the news with anyone who showed up expecting to head elsewhere, that the party was relocated. And Summer was going to just use her own place for the cause, but, really, through the ensuing chain of events in preparation that morning, she remembered that Diego's apartment was pretty much literally right across the hall and easily twice as large.

So Diego's apartment it was!

Honestly, as boyfriend, it was literally the least he could do.

But because it was a little last minute and Summer didn't have the benefit of foisting at least half the cleaning duties on an NPC bartender like she could at Caritas, the decorations were a bit more...restrained. Oh, sure, there was still going to be glitter everywhere and every corner that Summer had access to was decked out in stars, but the mood was much different, trying to go for something a little more elegent in mood, with starlights draped out on the balcony, draped over doors, and projected over the walls and ceiling.

Look, if they couldn't make it out to space due to galactic conflict and super harsh critics with planet-exploding capabilities, they could at least try to bring the space to them.

Just a little weird. Okay, a lot weird. A whole lot.

"Well, still. Very best of luck to you," Danny replied earnestly. "We'll all be rooting for you here."

"You'll have to come visit me," Annie decided. "I mean, I'm sure my version of New York is probably different, but you're a Jersey boy. You probably know cool places that aren't, like, touristy."

Though she'd be doing all the touristy stuff, too, if she could.

"I have been into the city from time to time," Danny agreed. "And, while the best pizza is still in New Jersey, I knew a few places you'll need to check out."

Did his accent get a little more prominent at that? Yes. Yes, it did.

"Well, obviously I'm gonna need this pizza, too," Annie assured him. "You and Steve and Diego can come visit me for a weekend or something and we'll, like, follow your lead."

While Annie was dressed like the Unabomber police sketch, lest someone recognize her, of course.

"I've already promised--" Threatened, really. "--Steve with a trip in New Jersey to try the best cheeseburger around. So, you guys will have to come for that."

Yes. Double date.

"We will," Annie agreed, just going ahead and RSVPing to that on Diego's behalf while she was at it. "But only if you promise this cheeseburger is located somewhere those two can't also find a bar fight."

She totally felt like that one night was a fluke, yes.

"It's in New Jersey, so I think they could probably pick a fight with some locals if we don't supervise 'em."

Danny would be doing the ordering to prevent this. Also so he wouldn't be banned from the place.

"We need, like, a swear jar," Annie decided, "but for dumb, preventable injuries. Or like a sign with rotating numbers we can change that says 'X Many Days Since Dumb Bar Fight' or something."

Evidently Annie still thought scolding had, like, any impact.

"They'd flip it an take pride in managing to get up to some dumb shit quickly, you know."

"I do know," Annie sighed, though it was a little fond. "At least if we take 'em out in public in my universe, I might be able to convince them to stay on good behavior so my secret identity doesn't get blown."

Oh yeah, that was gonna have to be a whole thing, all over again.

"That'll work for Steve at least," Danny promised. "Unless someone is particularly being a jackass, but then you might need to tell me to not deck them."

The New Jersey brought it out in him.

"It'll work on Diego, too, but you know," Annie decided, "I think I would totally sit back and watch if you got into a fight."

Like, unless he needed backup. Then woe unto whatever Jersey moron picked a fight with a guy who had those three for backup.

"Helps that I do my best to not get into those sorts of fights." But if you got him that riled up, he would find a way to get you.

"Which, like, I for one appreciate," Annie noted, "but I also enjoy a novelty like anyone else."

Also, Danny, you were like, so short. It would be fun in the way it was probably fun for people to see Annie beat up people twice her size, too!

So, one day they needed to be the ones in the bar fight, really.

For all the bruised egos it would cause.

Danny snorted at that and shook his head. "Well, sometimes you gotta fight. Even Gracie knows that, god help me."

Obviously. Subverting expectations through violence!

"Well, I think every girl her age should learn how to fight, but that's just me," Annie replied. Shocking that she held this opinion, really. Shocking.

"Kono snuck some training in there, but I have to pretend I didn't know about it because Rachel doesn't approve," Danny admitted. "She thinks my job encourages it enough as is."

"It's just practical," Annie said lightly, shaking her head. Also, again, sometimes funny, because no one ever seemed to expect a real punch from a woman. "Though I should say -- Grace is like, exactly my target demographic, now. I'll pass along any cool stuff they roll out under my brand that I think she'd like."

Hopefully Grace would enjoy things with empowering sayings and stars on the packaging.

"I'm sure she'll love it," Danny replied with a grin, clearly pleased that Annie was thinking of his kid.

Grace did have the distinction of being the only tween Annie really actually knew these days, to be fair.

"Even if, like, The Seven won't mean anything to her," Annie acknowledged. "Yet."

Oh, she'd make a Queen Maeve fangirl out of your daughter yet, Danny, so help her.

Quickly approaching teen, so she could figure out how to cater to that finicky demographic.

"Well, if you show off some of the real life--" He wiggled his fingers a little to demonstrate. "--powers stuff, she'd probably like it."

"I absolutely would show off for her, if you'd be cool with that," Annie assured him.

Grace knew about weirdness and all but it was still good to make sure!

"As long as she doesn't get it in her head to try fighting crime instead of doing her homework."

"I will have you know," Annie informed him, "that I did both."

Or, well, trained to fight crime, anyway, while also being in school.

"Well, there are very few superhero jobs available for Grace right now and I will literally have an aneurysm if she joins the military or the police force once she graduates," Danny replied with a laugh.
