Text messages had ~~oh so handwavily~~ gone out to all the chaperones on the trip that Summer's Jello Shot Room Party would be happening that Wednesday, of course, followed by an afterparty over at Karaoke Kan's Shibuya location. Because, at this point, a jello shot room party and some sort of afterparty was practically tradition. And to steal a phrase from another character: Tradition? Don't mess with it!

(That was totally how it went, right?)

Either way, through an series of complicated arrangements that allowed her to pull off her usual serving of shots, Summer (and Barry!) had put together a fine selection, and then she went to get the room prepared after spending some time around Tokyo (and, like, sort of chaperoning, too? Because that was what they were there for, right?), and wondering if the size of the room might actually work to their benefit in getting everyone ready to get out to the bar for some karaoke!

"Oh, you know," Summer shrugged, waved a blithe hand, "the uuuuuuuushe. Shopping. Sight-seeing. Took Rey and John for sushi with Barry last night..."

Then she grinned, shaking her head. "Going out for poisonous fish sounds just like Dr. Lecter."

"Wwas it a nice dinner?" Seivarden asked. "And does it? He invited me to join him, and I couldn't say no."

She had been suspicious but it would have been awkward to turn down the invitation when she was making an effort to be nice.

"It really was," Summer said, already smiling fondly I'm remembrance of it. "Really cozy, personal, and the chef was amazing, obviously. I think Rey and John found it a little weird at first, but I think they enjoyed themselves...

"And the thing I remember most from Dr. Lecter's class was that he always encouraged us to try new, weird things and be open-minded about them. Definitely a lesson that carried over big time with me."

"I'm not surprised," Seivarden replied with a laugh. "Trying new things can be exciting, I suppose."

In Seivarden's opinion she was doing that a lot nowadays.

She had been doing that a lot nowadays! And Summer had definitely noticed that (and liked to think she was a key componant, too), but she still couldn't help smirking at that and saying, "Okay, so...who are you? And what have you done to Seivarden Vendaai? Did I honestly just hear you say trying new things can be exciting??"

Summer had actually contributed to that, yes.

"What, are you trying to say I'm usually not? I try all your jello shots every week."

"You do now," Summer specified. "It took you a while to get there, though, and I remember when we first met, I was pretty sure you were allergic to anything fun-and-or different."

And though her tone was a little bit teasing, her smile was genuine.

"You've actually come a long way, Seivarden. It's...really good to see."

Now...did she spoil the praise by using it to try and convince her to karaoke later? Hmmmmm.....tough choice!

"The world around me has improved a lot," Seivarden observed. "That makes a difference."

And as if to anticipate the narrative, she added: "I draw a limit at karaoke, though."

Summer might have said something about the fact that the world definitely had not been the thing that changed, but that last part got her.

It was like these people knew her or something.

"Oh, come on!" she protested. "I bet you've got an amazing singing voice!"

"I don't, actually," she said with a laugh. "Better than Breq's but that isn't saying much."

That last part was said lovingly.

"But I'm going to give you applauds when you sing. Is that good enough?"

"No," said Summer, firmly, folding her arms in front of her, because why would she say anything else if you were giving her the option, Seivarden?, "it's not. You should totally sing."

And she felt maybe a little bad about this next part, but, at the same time, she only thought of it because Seivarden had mentioned it:

"I bet Breq would want you to sing."

"Breq doesn't care if I sing."

Seivarden wasn't sure but she hoped Breq wouldn't care either way, about this.

"Besides, even if I wanted to I don't know any of the songs."

Summer was going to meet Seivarden's arguement with a dubious look before pointing out, "They literally put the words up on the screen for you. All you have to do is follow along."

"I don't know the tune," Seivarden pointed out.

"Yes, but you have ears, don't you?" Summer deadpanned, before adding a roll of her eyes. "So much for progress."

"As I said, there are limits."

When it came to karaoke, Summer would have to be patient or get Seivarden really drunk, although the latter wasn't easy these days.
