Text messages had ~~oh so handwavily~~ gone out to all the chaperones on the trip that Summer's Jello Shot Room Party would be happening that Wednesday, of course, followed by an afterparty over at Karaoke Kan's Shibuya location. Because, at this point, a jello shot room party and some sort of afterparty was practically tradition. And to steal a phrase from another character: Tradition? Don't mess with it!

(That was totally how it went, right?)

Either way, through an series of complicated arrangements that allowed her to pull off her usual serving of shots, Summer (and Barry!) had put together a fine selection, and then she went to get the room prepared after spending some time around Tokyo (and, like, sort of chaperoning, too? Because that was what they were there for, right?), and wondering if the size of the room might actually work to their benefit in getting everyone ready to get out to the bar for some karaoke!

But Reeeee~eey! It was Japan! Tokyo! Karaoke capital! You had to at least come and spectate!

And no doubt they had plenty of Britney on catalogue!

"Hey, Rey!" Summer bounced eagerly over to her. (Don't worry, the shots were safe from sharks...this time). "Bet it feels nice to not have to worry about this all up in your room, huh?"

Although, technically speaking, it was her room...

"It does," she smiled. "And all I have to do is go next door when I want to go to bed."

And then hope it wasn't loud enough that the party was still with her.

There was a long pause.

Because that almost sounded like...

"Not really," Summer pointed out, "because there's the after party..."

You weren't about to tell her you weren't going to the after party, were you, Rey??

"I promised John I wouldn't be out too late," she said.

Which wasn't true but she knew he wouldn't mind sooooo.

Not to mention, that was, like, the worst excuse.

"Geez, Rey," Summee snorted, "what is he? Your boyfriend, or your dad?

"Besides," she added, "he should totally come, too. I mean, like, I get the appeal of just staying in because I have, you know, eyes and a pulse, but also you could literally just do that back home..."

You know what Rey didn't have? A dad.

But her answer was honest and simple. "I like quiet time."

Much more her scene than karaoke.

And that simple and honest answer was a much, muuuch better one, too. Because Summer could actually sympathize with that for Rey, and her expression softened a little.

"Yeah," she sighed. "I know. I get that, too, and, really, you should have just opened with that. But...if you do change your mind," doubtful, but she had to at least say it, "you know I'd be stoked to have you along."
