Room 102, then Karaoke Kan Shibuya; Tokyo, Japan; Wednesday Night [02/24].

Text messages had ~~oh so handwavily~~ gone out to all the chaperones on the trip that Summer's Jello Shot Room Party would be happening that Wednesday, of course, followed by an afterparty over at Karaoke Kan's Shibuya location. Because, at this point, a jello shot room party and some sort of afterparty was practically tradition. And to steal a phrase from another character: Tradition? Don't mess with it!

(That was totally how it went, right?)

Either way, through an series of complicated arrangements that allowed her to pull off her usual serving of shots, Summer (and Barry!) had put together a fine selection, and then she went to get the room prepared after spending some time around Tokyo (and, like, sort of chaperoning, too? Because that was what they were there for, right?), and wondering if the size of the room might actually work to their benefit in getting everyone ready to get out to the bar for some karaoke!

"Is there pizza?"

Was it something Dante could conceivably say at any point in his life entering any kind of social engagement?

Yes.

Was he saying it right now, on entry, because he knew Summer thought of him as pizza guy?

... Also absolutely yes.

"Duh, yeah," said Summer, grinning despite the roll of her eyes. "Of course there's pizza."

Sure, ~~someone failed to mention food~~ it was okonomiyaki, but that still counted, right?

That was a pancake, Summer. Dante was going to be so disappointed. "Yeah? Where is it?" he asked, and then winked, and added, "'Sup, Summer?"

Yeah yeah yeah, a deep-dish was pretty much a casserole, but, colloquially, it was sometimes called pizza, and so he was just going to have to deal with it! They were in Japan, dammit. Embrace it!

"Over on the desk," she said, quirking her head toward where various snacks and food were laid out among the ice-bucket of beer and the jello shots, then she grinned. "How's it going, Dante?"

"Pretty good," Dante said, putting off his disappointment for a later ping. "I mean, like, free vacation. It's been fucking ages."

"I'll bet," said Summer, musing and marveling a little at the passage of time and the fact that she'd actually kind of been somehow milking this vacay thing for a while now, or it definitely felt that way. "Nice, isn't it? You guys think you'll be keeping on with the teaching thing for a while, or is it just a sort of one-shot kind of deal?"

"Probably a one shot," Dante admitted. "Maybe we'll do it again later. But we got a boyfriend back home who's just gonna let work eat him alive if we're not there to stop him, so..."

"I guess that's fair," Summer allowed, though it was a little hard to not be a bit disappointed. Sure, they weren't besties or anything, but it always just did feel kind of nice to see Dante pop into her parties again. "Still, it's been nice having you guys around and I guess that just means more to look forward to when you do pick it up again. So...what kind of work does he do?"

She threw a mean party. Dante was into it and was kinda gonna miss it.

"He's kind of..." Dante trailed off for a second, then shrugged. "He was trained as a healing mage back home," he said. "Then demons kinda fucked up my home all over and now he works in the clinic as a healer for anyone who comes in looking gnarly."

"Aww," said Summer, who managed to infuse a lot of inflection in just that single sound, sympathy for the situation about Dante's home but gratitude, in a way, that this boyfriend mage guy was able to help out in such a good way, "but, yeah, that's definitely the kind of job where having people around to ease the stress of it a bit is, like, super important. And st least sometimes you guys can swing around and visit or stay for a while. Gotta love that about a multidimensional hub, right? And might as well take advantage of it, too!"

"Yeah, I was thinking about that," Dante said. "Think we kinda half-avoided the place after we left because, like, most of everybody we knew had fucked off, you know?"

"I get that," Summer agreed with a faint smile. "I mean, I fucked off, too, for a little while. And I kind of always feel like I'm in the brink of just fucking off again," almost did just this last weekend, in fact! Although that was entirely unintentional, "but I'm glad I came back. There's always new, interesting people coming in, and we're good proof that awesome people come back, too. I mean, look at Rey. She and i barely even talked to each other when we were in school, then we both fucked ff, came back, and now she's one of my best friends and totally mooching on my free vacay ticket."

"Hey, if it works, it works," Dante said easily. "Iunno. Maybe I hung around this place too long after I graduated. Kinda felt done with it. Still not totally sure I'm not."

"Well," Summer allowed, with a faintly encouraging smile, "either way, you know you always have an open invitation to literally any of my parties. And my pizza."

Even when those pizzas were pancakes.

"Mmmm, but no strawberry shots that I can see," Kathy teased. "So it looks like there will be some deprivation in your evening."

Dante pouted at her. "Can you make me strawberry shots when we get home?"

"Mmm...what's in it for me?" Kathy 'Fucking Soft Touch' Li asked thoughtfully. "Since I already know that the answer isn't strawberry jello shots."

"All my love and affection?" Dante tried.

Kathy raised an eyebrow. "This from the man who left me to die."

"The fuck was I gonna do for you that Anders couldn't?" Dante said. "I'm the guy you call when you want somebody punched for you!"

"Cuddle," Kathy said, taking the opportunity to try to pull one of his arms around her waist. "Anders can't give me Dante-cuddles. They're your own special brand. Accept no substitutes."

Just like Dante couldn't give her Anders-cuddles.

Dante groaned, though he totally let her work his arm around her waist. "Dante-cuddles ain't gonna heal you, babe."

"But they make me feel better," Kathy pointed out, leaning up on her tiptoes to steal a kiss.

"And of course I will. But you knew that."

Dante kissed her again. "Thanks," he said. "And look, you're gonna get plenty of cuddles and more tonight."

Beat.

"Or more tomorrow. Might get super drunk tonight."

"There's karaoke," Kathy pointed out. "We're both going to get drunk tonight."

Though they both also had ridiculous metabolisms, so...who knew?
