It had taken a bit to get there, but the whirlwind of Summer's burst of party planning was finally coming to frution. There had been the flyers, of course, some good radio coverage, and the ubitquitously handwaved mass text, so hopefully people knew about it enough to show up. Especially since a lot of work had been put into making Goose's apartment party ready. For one thing, it actually had furniture, plenty of sofas and ottomans for the guests to sit, arranged to also allow for a lot of standing and gathering room (and, yes, yes, for all the wall flowers, a few meticulously curated shadowy corners, you're welcome. But most of the decor attention would probably be put into the magic work Summer had Margo and Eliot do.

With the faint scent of rose and mint in the air, the entire ceiling was cloaked in the vastness of outer space. But not just any space, because, in Summer's experience, space was actually kind of boring, so they pumped it up, they amped the colors, they filled it with a ton of glitter (of course). Distant planets and swirls of galaxies and pulsating quasars dotted the starscape in swatches of pink and purple and green, some glowing bright with neon. Shooting stars would occasionally trail overhead and across the walls, leaving behind a dusting of color and glitter and occasionally a message that called out "Happy Birthday, Goose!" with another message trailing behind it that read "(And Gladio, too!)". Occsionally, the starscape would seem to swell a little and expand, so that, on occasion, it would feel as though you weren't just looking at it, but almost being surrounded by space until it moved on.

The spare bedroom had been converted into a karaoke room, there was a jello table and a tended bar set up, with an ice luge embedded with neon lights, and a keg all dolled up to look like a container of Cup Noodle. And speaking of Cup Noodle, don't anyone forget Cup Noodle gift bags! There's plenty for everyone, at a table by the door, so you can help yourself to that excellent tote filled with some of the most random (and pretty moddable) chintzy Cup Noodle junk Summer could find on cheap Chinese websites (the real highlights, though, robably being the slippers and the candle).

The kitchen, of course, was dedicated to be the haven of Ignis, who staunchly refused to do anything Cup Noodle related for his food offerings, which, if you asked Summer, were a bit much for a party where she was hoping everyone would be quickly too drunk to care about what they were putting in their mouths, but, hey, you do you, Specs.

She'd even hired a bouncer, mostly for raccoons, but also for students, let's be real, and since she usually hired Gladio for that position, putting in Billy this time around seemed like the obvious choice, and she was even being very, very good about not just calling him Wish Gladio or Walmart Gladio or Budget Gladio tonight.

And, just like that, this party was ready to get started!

When he wasn't keeping track of the food (or being dragged into karaoke), Ignis certainly was also keeping tabs on the state of both Shane's inebriation and the state of his clothes, so this was coming as no surprise to him.

"Shane," he said. "Perfect timing. I was just about to pour a glass of water; I don't suppose you'd like one?"

Was he going to be getting one regardless?

Of course he was.

"Ooh ... I'll have some water please," Goose nodded, "I should probably drink some of that right? I don't think I've dra..dru ... had any water yet," he started giggling, "I've had a lot of shots though,"

That part was obvious Goose.

"I'm sure you have," said Ignis, not even bothering to hold back his amused and honestly pleased grin that even in his current state, Shane could pick up on exactly why Ignis had offered water in the first place. "I'd ask you for a recommendation on which I should be sure to try, but I can already tell, you're going to tell me I should try all of them."

With that, the water was poured and he handed the glass over with a quirk of his eyebrow that seemed to be waiting to be told he was right.

To the surprise of no one, Ignis was definitely right about that.

Goose nodded enthusiastically at that as he took the offered glass, "I definitely recommend all of them!" he exclaimed, "I especially liked the pickle one, I really enjoyed those," he looked back over in the direction where the shots were, "do you think I could have more?" he said hopefully as he turned back to look at Ignis.

"Let's see how you feel," Ignis suggested, "after you've finished that glass and maybe had a little bit of food. I understand I'm entirely biased, but there is a rather excellent selection and I've made plenty. Besides," he gave Shane a soft smile, "with everything that's been going, I felt we've barely had a chance to spend some time together. I'm certainly not about to let you run off before I've had an opportunity to take advange of having you here while I do."

“I’d like that,” Goose nodded, “I mean …I’d like to spend more time with you …I’d like that a lot!” he said with a smile and he drank a bit more water, “I do like food as well,” he also added after a moment.

"For which I am very grateful," said Ignis, who mostly meant the part about the food, but it certainly did qualify for the other part, as well. "I'll get you a plate."

One which he already had in hand by the time he said it, and was loading it up with a good selection of some of the appetizers that might not sit too heavily in a stomach already filled with alochol and jello. "They're all small bites, really, so it'll take quite a bit of it for a man as lare as you."

Goose giggled, “thank you,” he said as he watched Ignis fill up the plate.

“I’m really enjoying the party,” he stated, well that was a bit obvious by how drunk you were Goose, “this is my best birthday yet!”

Well since he hadn’t actually celebrated his other ones it was t hard for that to happen.

Well, thank you, Summer, for setting the bar incredibly high for any birthday parties to follow, at that.

"And to think," said Ignis, whose grin broadened into a smile and almost turned into a bit of a chuckle of his own, "you were originally so nervous, too. Guess we won't be needing that escape plan after all."

“I know!” Goose said with a laugh, “it was so strange, I didn’t know what it was going to be like celebrating my birthday and now I know that they’re a lot of fun!”

Especially once he’d had several shots by then. “we definitely don’t need to escape now!” Goose told him with a grin.

"Though I have to admit," said Ignis, handing Shane the plate of food now that it had a good and significant selection on it, "I might be a little disappointed. It would have been an excellent escape, if I do say so myself."

Goose took the plate and took a few bites of food, “oh?” he tilted his head, “what did the escape plan involve?” he asked curiously.

"A hasty retreat," said Ignis, wondering if he should feel a bit bad flirting with Shane in his current inebriated state, but it was rather difficult not to, even with his otherwise immaculate sense of self-control, "back to my very empty apartment."

Goose’s eyes widened at that, “that is a very good escape plan,” he grinned, “I do like the sound of that,” he paused, “maybe we could still make a hasty retreat?” he tried hopefully.

"Things could very well get rather dicey at a moment's notice," Ignis observed, terribly seriously, despite the faint grin on his face. "It may very well be in our best interests to do precisely that."

And how convenient that Summer brought in all this new furniture so that Ignis' roommate could have a new couch to crash on here instead.

It was very convenient indeed.

Goose nodded, “yes, we wouldn’t want to be here when that happens,” he agreed, “I think it would be for the best if we were to leave and get away then,” he declared.
