Hunky Waiter Cat Cafe. Pancake Dimension; Friday Morning [08/21].
When Summer dug into that first bite of pancakes, she closed her eyes to just take a nice, long moment to appreciate how this place always seemed to have the perfect ratio of pancake to syrup, then opened her eyes so she could also appreciate the retreating form of the shirtless hunky waiter who'd delivered their food to them, while scritching behind the ears of the absolutely adorable kitten curled up and sleeping in her lap right now with her free hand, while a purry tabby affectionately nuzzled her leg.
"I am so glad we're doing this right now," she said, reluctantly turning away from the waiter to go in for another bite. "I swear, if I had to relive the giant spider invasion of [Unnamed Planet] one more time, I was going to totally flip my shit."
[[ for the ~Radchaai BFF~~~ <3 <3 <3. No, no, the other one! And NFB for distance, obvs. ]]

And then she sent it.

"That didn't get sent to where I think it did, did it?"

She took another bite from the pancake.

And as much as she tried to ignore it or pretend it wasn't, Lucifer was probably always going to be a sore subject for her.
"You know," she said, stabbing her fork into her pancakes more forcefully than should ever be done in a Hunky Waiter Cat Cafe, "for a culture that seems to go on and on in its pride for propriety, you sure have a skewed perspective on it."
no subject
She took another bite, then added: "What do you mean, skewed?"

Which was something she had been doing SO WELL on being Over It and Done, until something this came up, and she was right ba--
--no. No. She was Over It and Done because there was a cute guy now who seemed.to not only like her, but was smart and funny and could not only handle her particular brand of craziness, but found it kinda hot, and brought her guns on a first date and was actually kind of perfect for her, except that it seemed he was almost a little too perfect...
But that was a whole thing she was also trying not to think about, so focus, Summer, one thing at a time, and right now, that thing was Seivarden's utter inability to see anything past her own aristocratic nose.
"You seriously don't see the optics in that?"
no subject
If he wasn't in a bad mood.
"I actually meant to point out that you're taking me to fun places. Anyway, why not bring your new date here."
no subject
But for now, she was just sighing a little and pinching the bridge of her nose because she had not had enough sleep to deal with this, and she was honestly starting to feel like she'd have been better off staying in the island to let everyone know vicariously through shadows and dreams that she used to eat people and that the reason she had a black eye in her junior year school picture was because her mom got so drunk she hit Summer with a wine bottle.
"That," she said, "is you just acting on a lot of assumptions about my feelings, Seivarden. If this was something I wanted to share with Lucifer...or Barry!...then that's my choice to make, not yours, especially when you knew I was reluctant to share it with you, even if you don't agree. But I am sharing it with you, and not them and is it really so bad to have something fun to share between just the two of us? Are you really that codependent that you have to drag him into everything?"

"What do you think I mean?" She said. "We've barely even been here ten minutes, and you can't just sit here and enjoy it. You've got to go tell Lucifer about it, when, guess what, the island is an a crisis right now, he probably doesn't even care!
"Just do me a favour, Seivarden? Next time, before you do something, just take a good long minute to actually think about the other people involved and how they might feel about you doing that thing, yeah? And maybe when a friend takes you somewhere that means something to her, you just enjoy spending time with that friend and the seriously awesome place she just introduced you to?"
Then she sighed again, because in working through all that, she realized it was about a little more than just Seivarden's complete lack of perception outside of the weird blatant type of nuances she was starting to understand about Radchaai culture.
"Look," she tried again, and if this didn't get anything across to Seivarden, she'd just write it off a mistake and move on, "it's just that Hunky Waiter Cat Cafe in the Pancake Dimension is kind of just where I go when I need to get away when I'm overwhelmed or stressed and need to just relax and, most importantly, feel better about myself. And Lucifer does not at all mesh with any of that for me right now. It feels like adding a drop of coffee to the perfect cup of tea for me, honestly.
"But it's fine," she said, "let's just drop it so I can go back to enjoying being served pancakes by devastatingly attractive dudes surrounded by adorable cats with the one person I feel can truly appreciate it at the level that I do?"
While she still could?
no subject
"I suppose I'm flattered that you see me as good company for this. It really is a unique place. I think."
no subject
"And don't forget," she added after she swallowed, "this is getting you away from whatever crap the island is trying to do to us all right now, too."
One more bite, and she pushed her chair back to get up from the table.
"Now if you'll excuse me, I think someone over there needs a belly rub."
Yes. She was talking about a cat.
This time.

"I think," she said, "I'm going to head home after this, until whatever's going on on the island blows over. I really don't think anyone needs any of the shit I have nightmares about getting all up on them, accidental or otherwise. But can I ask you a favor?"
no subject
She was confused and uneasy about what had just happened, but she tried to enjoy herself, so she had flirted a bit with the pretty waiter while waiting for Summer to return.

There was a pause.
"It makes sense to go home, I suppose."

"I mean," shecsaid, "you could come with, if you wanted. Maybe you could go play golf with my dad."
Don't fall for it, Seivarden, it was a trap. No matter how bad the nightmares got, they would probably never be quite as bad as a round of golf with Jerry Smith.
"I can try to grab the portal gun while I'm there, too," she pointed out. "Not to use again right away," she quickly added, in case the last time would have inspired any objections. "But so Barry can have a look at it. He says he can build me my own, and then we don't have to depend on using Grampa Rick's."
no subject
"Be careful with the gun this time, but if Barry can build you one, it might be worth it."
