Summer was honestly feeling so glad that next year was a milestone birthday that she already had something very simple but important planned, because this one was just stressing her out way too much. Which was dumb, because she shouldn't have to impress anyone on her birthday, but she still, you know, wanted to impress people and no one wanted to be known as the girl with the lame birthday party, and it would be kind of hard to beat a party planet party next year, anyway, but that was, like, a problem for 21-year-old Summer, because the newly minted 20-year-old Summer was just going to let lose and really enjoy the fruits of poor, sad 19-year-old Summer's hard work, dedication, and social anxiety.

Because it was a party planet. And there was no moping allowed. Anyone who gets caught moping gets immediately spaced.

(Not really, because getting spaced was fucking brutal, but whatever, just have fun or something, it's not that hard).

"You are ruling out an enormous and diverse class of potential partners out of hand," Lucifer noted. "That's rather shallow, don't you think?"

"Are you calling me shallow?" Seivarden said, amused, taking a sip from her drink.

"About this? Yes," Lucifer said, smirking. "And such notions coming from miss Wing Kink herself."

"You can't call me that," Seivarden said. "I haven't even seen your wings." She took a sip from her drink, then added with a grin: "But I'm sure I'll like all of you."

Lucifer made an amused noise. "The wings are divine," if he still had them, "they can have rather odd effects on humans."

"Odd how?" Seivarden asked, pretending not to sound too curious.

"Dazzling them with the presence of divinity, that sort of thing," Lucifer said, making a vague motion. "You lot can get a bit... transfixed."

"Lucifer," Seivarden said. "That sounds like how you would describe yourself without wings. Not a criticism, but are you teasing me?"

"I mean, one, thank you," Lucifer said, smirking, "But two, no. I... there was a time I had them cut off. Some human collector put them up in a glass case and wouldn't stop staring at them for hours." A pause. "It was distasteful."

There was a pause.

"Ew."

And then:

"Why did you cut them off? And are you saying they grew back?"

"To spit in dad's face," Lucifer said, reaching for his drink, "And because without them, there was no way I could return to Hell in a moment of weakness." A beat. "But they did grow back, yes."

"Your family really is complicated," Seivarden said. "Is mutilating yourself to annoy a parent an angel thing? Anyway, they grew back? And you still can't show me?"

"They grew back," Lucifer confirmed, "And no, I still can't show you."

"I would like to be able to say you're teasing me, but I know you're not."

Lucifer had at least been clear about that.

Then, without really knowing why, she leaned in to kiss him.

Yes, that was a minor surprise, but Lucifer wasn't going to be odd about it; he was going to kiss her back, amused.

"What was that for?"

Seivarden, being surprisingly perceptive, realised that it was because things were back to normal, no complaining about how she failed to get something she definitely didn't.

Knowing better than to actually said that, she replied with a smirk: "Sudden inspiration. Du you want another drink?"

"Oooh, yes," Lucifer said, grinning, and held his glass out for her.

Seivarden grinned back, took his glass and returned a short while later with two pink drinks.

"They said these were safe for humans," she said as she handed Lucifer one of them. "And yes, I know that's not a concern for you, but I prefer to get back to the island alive eventually."

She sat down again.

"I suppose I'll have to do my risk-taking elsewhere, then," Lucifer sighed, but he accepted the drink and took a sip.

"That's easy to say for someone who can't die," Seivarden said, taking a sip from her own drink. "I'm not going to complain though, it was nice of Summer of arrange this. She seems to like me better these days."

The feeling was mutual, actually.

"I have to hand it to her, she really knows how to throw a bash people will remember," Lucifer agreed, looking around. "We're certainly going to have some fun."

This was where Seivarden's eyes widened and she started coughing, spilling half of the drink.

Lucifer blinked and looked back at her. "What, is it poison after all?"

"No," Seivarden croaked, gasping for air. "It's very strong. Did we get the same one?"

Lucifer shrugged. "I don't know," he said, "I can try some of yours if you want to be sure?"
