Office Hours; Office #3. Saturday [09/25].

Because of course Summer got to the be the special snowflake with an office that existed outside of a certain cluster of offices held by people with some mysterious unifying force, she got to also have her own post. Not that her mind was actually on meeting with the guests of her students very much that weekend, since she had her own to focus on, and the whole weekend was going to be all sorts of talking and planning and probably a few drinks and manicures in there, too.

It helped, though, that this office did hold kind of a special meaning for Summer, and one that was pretty appropriate to why Beth was even here in the first place, and it opened the door to tell her mom a little bit more about her time in space with the jello shop, what she was doing out there, why she had to come back, and, subsequently, the times she got to help with Rey and the resurgence of that empire, not to dissisimilar to the resurgence of the empire that Beth was dealing with.

There was, of course, also the issue of Summer's dad, who Summer was starting to suspect hadn't come to see her at all, and that, actually, he was here to latch onto Barry. Which was really sad and pathetic and not at all surprising, and Summer almost felt as if she should do something about that, but, look, she had some important stuff to talk to her mom about, and, really? Barry had to learn somehow. This is what you got, Ween, if you wanted to be a part of this family, and the best way to teach that lesson was to just let him suffer.

Beth, meanwhile, was still rather fascinated by the mural on the wall.

"So you said it's called a loth-cat?" she asked, turning back to her still-beaming daughter behind her desk. "I can't decide if Squanchette would be offended by this or not."

"Wait," said Summer, "Squanchette? You have a Squanch on your team??"

"Well, I mean," Beth sounded casual, but she had to chuckle a little, "it was her planet that got razed during the wedding massacre, remember? She's got even more of a beef with the Federation than most of us. But it's a good team, Summer, I think you'll like them. And..." She paused to give her a fond smile. "I think they'll like you, too."

It was a good thing Summer had been working on keeping all of her excitement about all this bottled tightly inside, because otherwise, she would be releasing a high-pitched happy squeal of just one long, sustained sound that would carry all the way over to that big clump of offices.

Goddamn, her space mom was so cool!!

[[ open door, open office, open post! Same SP vibes apply here as with all those losers in the clump ]]

"It's really nice to meet you...Mrs. Smith," Annie said, waving over to Space Beth and clearly sort of faltering on the landing, there, because this woman did not really look like a 'Mrs. Smith,' but, you know, when meeting friends' parents (or a variation thereof), usually best to default to the polite thing unless directed otherwise. Right?

(Also, space mom, but sure, that could be a next week thing. Next week was going to be busy.)

But she was also giving Summer a reassuring little look and a discreet wave of her hand, because yeah, Maggie here was totally the only teammate who was halfway decent but there was totally still that less-than-decent half. "And yeah, this is Queen Maeve. Maggie, while she's not in uniform," she added with a little touch of grandeur. "Summer knows who you are because she's my friend, you're not being recognized, calm down."

"Who's not calm?" Maggie asked, and okay, fine, that might be a cue to loosen up her posture because she wasn't really projecting 'calm,' no. "But yeah, hi. Nice to meet a friend of...Annie's."

She was having a much harder time with the whole given-name thing than Annie was -- probably because Annie spent a lot more time as Annie than as Starlight, and for Maggie it was absolutely the inverse -- but she still gave Summer a very small, but genuine smile and moved past Annie to offer a hand to shake and a cool nod of acknowledgement to Space Beth.

"Doctor, actually," said Space Beth, with a touch of a cocky grin, and she returned the friend-of-her-daughter's-friend's nod with one of her own. "But just Beth is fine."

And now that Summer had been reassured that there wasn't any thing to worry about, her buzzing doubles its efforts because not only had her mom showed up, but now she was actually meeting Queen Maeve--Maggie!--finally, even even if Summer's reviews on her might be a little mixed these days, that was still...super cool.

"Nice to meet you, too! So what are you guys up to?" She asked, making sure to be supes cas about it. "Just giving her the tour or something?"

"Oh my God, I am so sorry, I knew that, Beth," Annie said, actually smacking her forehead. "Horses, right?"

Not that it looked like there was much horse-doctoring going on these days, but still. God, Annie.

"We're apparently going bowling with a Norse god and a Homelander knockoff later," Maggie shared dryly.

"He's a lot more like Soldier Boy," Annie corrected, probably for the several-th time. "Are you guys having an awesome weekend? Like, Beth, you do not even know -- Summer is, like, basically the queen of this island, you're in the best possible hands to have a great time."

Okay, wait, did that sound, like...irresponsible?

"And she also helped me out so much when I first got here!" Annie added. "And with teaching. And, like, my life."

Look. Look. If she saw him in uniform, she'd be able to instead aptly-compare him to his handsome, probably not psychotic, Jensen Ackles-y counterpart. But Captain America just sounded like trying to make Homelander toys while getting around copyright laws!

"Are you the one who does the jello shots?" Maggie asked, slanting a look at Annie because guess what, she knew you were the one who did the jello shots, Summer, Annie had talked about them a lot (and not just this weekend! Maggie had in fact seen blurry pictures of the Queen Maeve shots made in her honor.) "'Cause props. I like anyone who can be creative with liquor."

Normal compliment to give someone in front of their mother.

"She used to even sell them in space, apparently," said Beth, sounding impressed.

Normal thing for a mother to be impressed of in front of her daugher's friends.

"Okay, like," Summer rolled her eyes again but totally didn't mean it, "I'm in a room with two of the greatest superheroes ever and a space revolutionary, but, yeah, jello shots are totally right up there.

"Thanks, though," she added, with an appreciative smile Maggie's way, because she was actually really proud of them and it felt like a weirdly big accomplishment to get props from Queen Fucking Maeve right now.

Then she snorted. "If I'd have known you were coming, I'd have made some."

Annie could be cool about long stories and the need to hear them later, but that didn't mean she was going to keep from looking over at Beth and mouthing the words 'space revolutionary' in nothing short of wonder.

Maybe Rey needed a blue streak in her hair, if she was gonna do space revolutionary stuff! Annie would suggest it.

"Apparently there's Asgardian ale to come," Maggie replied, her smile warming a little bit. "But maybe next time I visit I'll have to do some shots with you."

Everyone, look at that: next time.

"Or if you come by the tower again, 'cause I heard you're gonna be in the Starlight show," she added, and now it was Annie's turn to look mortified, because really, there was a space revolutionary and her own personal idol and her amazing best friend and then here's Annie, the reality star.

Summer's little finger-twirl there got a dry raise of Maggie's eyebrows, because believe you her, no one got how fucked up and stupid Vought's marketing was better than the bisexual woman on the team who was now proudly telling everyone she was a big ol' lesbian because it played better.

#BraveMaeve. Show your truest colors. Et cetera.

"My spots are all carefully contractually negotiated," Maggie replied, shrugging a shoulder. "And scripted. Don't tell, though. We're all in it. They got Homelander to take off his cape for his talking head, like he's all casual."

"He's our team leader," Annie started carefully, glancing to Maggie and receiving an answering shrug. "We're superheroes -- she's the strongest woman in the world, I can shoot light out of my hands," again, totally normal, "and Homelander is -- I guess there's a guy in this world called Really Strong Guy Who Can Fly? Which, to me, seems like a mouthful, but anyway he's like him but he's all...nationalistic."

"He's a flying psychopath in an American flag cape with laser eyes," Maggie contributed, cutting right to the point. "And he's also my ex."

Which might have been new information, depending on how deep Summer had dug on All Things Seven, but Maggie also had the dubious distinction of being Homelander's only relatively amicable(......ish) -- and, you know, living and be-limbed -- ex-girlfriend.
