MHA #4; Thursday Evening [07/09].

It had been a while since Summer and Rey got together for one of these sangria nights, and Summer was really feeling like it was needed. But the nice thing was that the unwinding and conversation that had this time around should be way more positive and uplifting than the last time they did this.

Boy, she certainly hoped so anyway! That last time had gotten dark.

But tonight, there was plenty of sangria to be had, the cats had been isolated in the bedroom with plenty of catnip and their fifty billion different toys that they usually just ignored for pieces of string and packaging tape unless it was decided that what this evening really needed was some cute cat snuggling, she'd set up a pretty relaxing multidimenional playlist that featured heavily on the snake jazz, the space jizz, and the lo-fi hip-hop beats to chill to, there was a small army of hopeful nail polish bottles stationed on her coffee table, and while she waited for Rey to swing by, she was in the kitchen, looming over the glowing screen of her phone in the attempts to mix up an experimental mud mask that she was hoping to convince Rey to at least try once they were a few glasses in.

Dry winter weather was coming for their skin soon; they needed to be prepared.

"Just a seeeec~!" Summer sang out, because, dammit, she should have figured Rey would be actually punctual and shit, and of course she hadn't quite timed it right so she quickly finished up what she could before slinging it into the fridge for now, swapping it for the sangria pitcher and dropping it off at the coffee table before heading to the door.

And after confirming it was, in fact, who it was supposed to be (hi, you could really never be too sure around here, nor could she even, technically, be sure yet that that even was Rey, but anyway...), she threw open the door.

"You made it!"

As if she wouldn't. But again, around here...but either way, she stepped out of the way to invite Rey to come on in.

"Dud you think I wouldn't?" Rey asked, smiling as she came in.

She hit to talk, in private, of course she wasn't missing it.

"I mean," Summer snorted a little, gravitating easily toward the couch and the whole basis for why they were even there that day, "who knows? You could have woken up all small and furry and I'd be blowing up your phone with texts you can't respond to."

She frowned a little in thought as she picked up one of the glasses from the table and got to pouring. No point in not just getting right to the good stuff, right?

"I'm pretty sure you've done that already, right? The animal thing? But I can't think of what you turn into."

And then, glass full, she handed it over with a grin. "Your bev-raahge. I added jogan and meiloorun this time, too, so I'm excited to see how it turned out

"Thank you," Rey said, taking it. "I've done the animal thing. Not small and furry, though. I turned into an actual ray."

Which was kind of a problem!

And would change if the player ever got to go on vacation again.

"That makes sense," said Summer, as she poured her own glass and got settled on the couch, tucking one leg underneath her.

But even as she said it, a little thing like logistics settled in, too, and her head tilted, brow drown, looking like perhaps she might go back and renege on that statement, if it weren't for the fact that it didn't really matter much.

Still...

"It's terrible and embarrassing and I don't recommend it," Rey said, possibly answering some questions there, and taking her own seat next to Summer.

Yeah, Summer would have to admit, she had it pretty good with hers being squirrel.

"Buuuuut," she said, after taking a sip, considering the flavor, approving of it enough to follow it up with a second one before continuing, because who didn't love a shoe-horned segue?, "what about something not terrible, maybe kind of embarrassing, that you hopefully would recommend?"

Generally speaking. Obvs.

"Is that your subtle way of asking about John?"

Super subtle. The subtlest.

Subtle was practically Summer's middle name.

"Oh," she smirked blithely, "did you want to talk about something else instead?"

"I know what you want to hear about," Rey said, smiling as she sipped her drink. "That's really good."

"Thank you!" Summer beamed a little, and she definitely was already thinking of other space fruits to try I her next batch. "And can you blame me? It's big, exciting news! Don't tell me there's not, like, at least a little part of you that's just dying to fish about it at least a liiittle, because I will not believe you."

"Maybe a little," Rey admitted, smiling wider. "It's still new."

Like new enough that there was a not-zero chance that she checked whether he was still up when she left here.

"Yeah," Summer smirked into her drink, "a bit."

And look at how much restraint Summer had shown in waiting to harass her about it, still!

"So," she then ventured, conspiratorial, as she tucked her other leg up and got comfortable and ready to get into it, "what was it, finally? That made it...click?"

And she was 99% sure this story was not going to involve any groundbreaking alternate reality blockbuster movie castings or secret toilet planets.

"I don't really know," Rey admitted, considering it. "It's like... I was still telling myself I was reading too much into it or questioning whether it was a good idea and then I blinked and realized we were already past that. I don't know if that makes sense."

"Oh," Summer assured her emphatically, "it totally makes sense. One of those 'when you know, you just know' kind of things."

"Sort of. I never really had a single moment where I knew anything," Rey said. "More like, 'of course this is what our conversations have turned into.'"

"Into what?" teased Summer. "Into what anyone else with eyes and ears figured it would?"

"Yes, that, apparently," Rey confirmed with a nod.

"Well, now I definitely need to get around to meeting Johhhhn," Summer decided. "And pick up way more glitter for my flag. How long until you think you two'll be up to double-dating status?"

Summer was really bad at follow-through on that kind of thing, though, Rey, so no need to worry too much there. She still owed Tisarwat and Lucille one to the moon.

"We haven't even talked about actual dates," Rey said. "Do pirates go on dates?"

"I don't see why they couldn't," Summer pointed out with a smirk. "I don't think it's something expressly forbidden in their contracts."

"There's also the issue of how I don't even know what to do on dates," Rey said.

She'd seen them on TV, and now terrible Hallmark movies.

"The general rule of thumb is a chipper and encouraging 'just be yourself!'" Summer chirped with a laugh, considered how much was left in her glass, and figured she was still a few more sips away from needing a refill. "But also, my last date was literally to a toilet planet, so my own perception on it is pretty wide-reaching. It does usually involve dimension hops or visiting planets these days, but most people just stick with, you know, dinner and a movie or something."

"To a toilet planet?"

She had to ask about that one. She didn't want to, maybe. But she had to.

"In my defense," Summer offered, "I didn't know it was a toilet planet. And it is legit one of the most gorgeous places I have ever seen, and I have been to a lot of pretty places, Rey. It's really just the one toilet, too, but it's my grampa's secret toilet...because he has one of those, because he's a shy pooper...so, you know..."

She winced a little.

"Awkwaaard."
