The Smith Residence; Dimension FH-001; Sunday Morning [10/18].
Sure, Summer would be tending to the all-important task of getting Seivarden back to her home universe later that evening, but there was at least one thing she needed to get done before then. Luckily, it wouldn't take very long at all.
And that would be taking a moment to crash Sunday morning breakfast at the Smith household to maybe rub a certain shiny new portal gun right in someone's face.
(What? You didn't expect her to just leave well enough alone, did you?)
"Oh, hi, you guuuuuuuys!" said Summer, as she hopped out from her very pink porta into the dining room filled with a fairly mixed bag of reactions. "Don't mind me, just popping through, stopping on by, for a little portal test. Sorry! Can't stay! Ooh, are those pancakes?"
"Summer, what the fuck?" came Rick's irritated, almost startled complaint, overlapping with Jerry's much more pleased reception, and Beth's slightly condescending, "You could have at least called first, Summer," and then followed, a beat later, by Morty's stammering, "Y-yeah. What the...what the fuck, Summer?"
But then Rick's eyes were narrowed in suspicion as he started to get a better outlook on what exactly was going on here. "That's not my portal gun."
"You're right," said Summer loftily, reaching over to grab a fork from the table and stab a pancake for herself with it. "It's not."
"Why is it pink?" Rick continued. "What kind of an idiot makes a portal..." The sentence was dramatically interrupted with a well-placed burp. "...pink. You know that just makes it look like a giant glowing va--"
"I know!" Summer interrupted quickly, firmly. "...what it looks like. It's fine."
"W-what...what does it look like?" Morty asked, trying for a whole innocent question thing even though no one was buying it, especially not when he'd been staring at the portal slack-jawed the whole time, his own forkful of pancakes paused before his mouth in his distraction.
"Ugh," said Summer, Rick, and Beth simulanitously, while Jerry was now very distinctly trying not to look at the portal.
"You're not fooling anyone, M-*burp*-Morty," Rick accused one grandchild before turning his accusing tone back toward the other one. "And you're not smart enough to make your own portal gun."
"No," Summer admitted easily, grinning after swallowing a bit of pancakes, "I'm not. But my boyfriend is."
"Boyfriend?" The word scoffed out of Rick at the same time it sputtered out of Jerry.
"Summer!" Jerry continued. "When did you get a boyfriend? Were you even going to tell us?"
As usual, Jerry went completely ignored.
"This," Rick was looking at Summer's beaming face, unimpressed, "is because I sent your lame ex-husband to your lame island for your lame Parents Weekend thing, isn't it?"
Which only made Summer beam all the more, and it was only fed by the incredulous burst from her parents that went with it.
"Husband? Now there's a husband now, too?"
"Summer! You can't just go get married without even telling us. I know you're a strong, independant young woman, but we are still your parents--"
"Anyway," sang Summer, "this has been super fun, it's so nice to see you all, but there's, like, adorable kitten in tiny little witches hats back at Fandom that definitely need my attention, I just wanted to drop by, say hi, let Grampa Rick know that he doesn't even need to worry about me constantly figuring out all his super cute attempts to keep me from stealing his portal gun anymore, so I'll just take this plate of pancakes here--"
"H-hey!" said Morty, finally breaking out of his portal-transe in time to realize that Summer had swiped his plate from the table. "I was still--"
"Byeee~eee!" Summer sang out again, and then she and the pancakes and the portal were gone in a little blip.
Leaving the rest of them in a little bit of a silent pause, as if not really sure what exactly to think about all of that. Until Beth went to give Morty a new plate of pancakes, and Rick just pushed himself up from the table, glaring at the spot where the portal had been, and then turning that glare toward mostly just Jerry.
"I...I *braap* told you you should've never sent her to that school..." he murmured, before stalking out of the room, toward the garage, where he needed to make sure that his portal gun was, in fact, still in tact and not turned into that horrible monstrosity in Summer's hands and to reconsider more than a few of his safety precautions...and maybe update some of them to ignore the whole 'Do Not Kill' protocol on certain redheaded granddaughters...
