MHA #4; Saturday Evening - Stark's Surprise Birthday Bash! [01/14].

By the time she expected the first guests to start filtering, Summer had managed to make her apartment look like a very blue-gold-specific explosion had happened in a Party City somewhere, and all the shrapnel somehow wound up in her living room and kitchen. From the balloons to the streamers hanging from the ceiling to the banners, there was no mistaking that a birthday party was going on here, in all its blue and gold and star themed glory.

Was it a bit much? Probably. Cheesy? Definitely. But it was the dude's first birthday party; it was allowed to be. In fact, Summer might argue that it was required to be exactly this level of obnoxious, thank you very much.

She got some music playing, went to get some of the food set out in the dining room and the drink offerings set up in the kitchen, and then she just had to wait for a good amount of people to show up before she'd text the man of the hour to get him down here.

There's a pretty wide and flexible window for party guests to arrive, really, since Summer isn't even going to get Stark down here until she knows there's a good amount of people there to surprise him with. But come on in and linger and mingle and enjoy the pre-party before the real party begins!

Once Summer feels like there's a good amount of people there and it was a pretty good time for it, she'd just going to shoot over a text to Stark, because, yes, she is fully banking on the assumption that if she simply sent him a message that read only "Hey, come down to my place right now," he would barely even hesitate.

She was also banking on the assumption that he had literally no other plans tonight, either.

Let's see if Summer's assumptions were correct, and wait for the birthday dude to ping in! And then it's all surprises from there, baby!

Now that there are guests and the person whose birthday is now suddenly was and the surprise element is out of the way, it's time to just party it up, like you do, because it is a party. Where you party. Party on!

Surprising no one, Summer didn't skimp on the food for this party, but there was definitely a theme involved with the offerings set out to nosh and peruse at the table (decorated and supplied, of course, to match): everything appeared to be in cupcake form.

Even though most of them definitely were not cupcakes.

There were cupcakes, of course, a couple different different ones, actually, but there were also pizza cupcakes, cheeseburger cupcakes, taco cupcakes, chicken pot pie cupcakes, mac and cheese cupcakes, and, best of all, the meatloaf and mashed potato cupcakes.

Yeah, Summer's muffin tins definitely got a workout for this party.

There were, of course, also a variety of jello shots available, as well: the glow in the dark ones were the most prominently featured, but there were also some Pop Rocks, cotton candy, both applie pies and key lime pies, and, of course, birthday cake.

Also, whatever else anyone else would want to bring and contribute! Summer's beverage options are always on point, too, so there's plenty modddable there, as well as your more basic snacks if you didn't want an entirely cupcake diet tonight.

It's not a big apartment, but because some of the food and drink were glow-in-the-dark, you might be able to find a shadowy corner or two to lurk in if that's more your style, and there's also the balcony if you feel the need to step out for a smoke or some fresh air.

It's as obnoxiously decorated as the rest of the party, but with a big old sign that says GIFTS! with an arrow pointing at the table, for anyone to drop off any birthday presents for Stark!

Though he did enjoy his occasional coffee shop conversations with Stark a great deal, Ignis had to admit that he didn't feel very close to the man himself. What better way to work toward remedying such a gap than to attend his birthday party? Besides, if Summer was behind it, he knew from personal birthday experience that she would certainly give it her all and it would not to be missed.

After a few run-ins with a balloon arch or a particularly low hanging streamer, however, he figured he may just find a good corner near the food and drinks to lurk to before knocking some unexpected decoration that had no business being where he was over.

Of course Steven was there and ready to party. He lived upstairs so easy enough to arrive on time and appreciate the decorations and work Summer had done.

And, where there was a party and there was an Ignis, there usually wasn't a Gladio too far behind, either. Or ahead, as the case may be, but, either way, he definitely wasn't going to miss this if only so he could describe for Ignis in better detail what offensive things Summer decided to do with food for this party.

Connor didn't know Stark well, but he knew Summer and had gotten a ~~handwaved~~ invite. And it wasn't like he had far to go seeing how he lived upstairs. So he was there and very much appreciating yet another example of the party power that Summer possessed.

After consulting with Summer a little as to ideas regarding Stark's palate, Ignis decided to gift him with a nice bottle of a sweet Recioto, with chocolates to compliment it, from both himself as well as Gladio.

Prompto arrived for the party with a little bit of yellow paint still under his fingernails and in a few spots near his ears, somehow, despite his best efforts to clean it off. But, after spending all day painting up the nursery, he was definitely ready for a nice Summer-style birthday party, even if he felt he didn't know Stark as much as he'd like.

Honestly, though, it could have been anyone's birthday and he'd have seized the chance, because who even knew how many opportunities he'd get for parties after next month? He had to enjoy them before he was too exhausted to do so, although, really, he was kind of tired from painting all day, too.

"Hiiiiii, Steven!" Summer greeted brightly, and debated on making a comment about him not forgetting or missing it, but decided instead to just stick with, "Glad you could maaaake it!"

Honestly, if the party was just all people who figured they might as well because they just lived upstairs? Then that was totally fine by Summer, it was still bodies in the door!

"Hi, Connor! Thanks for coming!"

Stark did not, in fact, have any plans tonight. His weekends were often quiet and he did tend to stay inside more in the winter.

He also did not, in fact, hesitate. He thought perhaps there was some sort of horrible food Summer wanted to subject him to. The thought also crossed his mind that something might be wrong but that seemed unlikely. Surely Summer had other people to contact in case of emergencies.

He didn't quite run down the stairs but he wasn't walking at a sedate pace either and found himself outside Summer's door and knocking in very short order.

"Summer?"

At which point it was probably already too late for her to gesture at anyone who wasn't being quiet already to be quiet already, but the text gave them all plenty of time to prepare and when Stark knocked, she responded by calling through the door, "Just come in, Stark, it's open!"

It was a good instinct since Steven had been nervous about it. "Summer, hello! How are you? Everything looks amazing!"

Should Stark have been suspicious at this point? Possibly. But he trusted Summer and so opened the door and took a single step inside and then just froze.

"Hey Summer. Of course, thanks for the invite! You really out did yourself again with all this" he said with an impressive glance and wave around at everything.

Well, Summer figured he had been nervous, because when was Steven not? But it was a party, so she figured he deserved a break from merciless being poked directly on the nerves tonight.

"Of course it does," she said, oh so modestly, as she gave another proud look around the blue-gold decoration vomit that was her apartment right now, before she turned a grin toward Steven. "And I'm good, thanks. If you brought a gift, the table for those is over there. We've got some time for people to show up before I drag Stark down here, so feel free to start pregaming on the food and drinks if you want. I don't know how long it'll be before everyone gets here."

"Oh, please," said Summer, waving a hand dismissively. "For Ignis' birthday, this whole place got turned into a pool, so a few balloons and streamers is nothing. But I do like how it turned out. Definitely really driving the Birthday Party-ness of it all home."

And, of course, now that he was inside the apartment and got a good look at it and all the people there, and she'd snapped a quick picture of the look on his face, Summer threw a little blue and gold confetti in the air with a "Surprise! It's your birthday now!"

He did say she could pick it, if she wanted to.

"I like the streamers especially," Steven said. Since, you know, moon and stars. "Do you need help with anything?"
